Arzina Khatun, affectionately known as Khatun, was born on January 1, 2003, in the quaint village of Bohilapota, Ward 2, Swarupdah Union, Chougacha Upazila, Jessore District, Bangladesh. From birth, Arzina faced severe physical challenges affecting her hands, arms, and shoulders. Her parents realized her condition when she was just one year old. Despite these obstacles, Arzina’s journey is a story of courage, determination, and community support. As a child, Arzina struggled to play with her peers or venture outside her home. But her loving family—her parents, two younger sisters, a younger brother, and grandmother—never let her disability define her. They provided constant care, encouragement, and support, helping her navigate a world that was not always accommodating. Her father, a van driver, and her mother, a homemaker, along with her family, became her first pillars of strength. They were initially anxious about her future, especially regarding education, social inclusion, and marriage prospects, but their unwavering love empowered Arzina to face life’s challenges confidently. Arzina began her education at the local government primary school. Early on, she experienced neglect and isolation from other students. With persistent encouragement from her parents and support from Ashraf Foundation, she continued her studies, overcoming social and physical barriers. She successfully passed key educational milestones and is now pursuing her third-year undergraduate degree in Bangla at Chougacha Government College. Arzina is a talented tailor, creating garments such as salwar kameez for her family and the community, generating income that supports both her personal needs and her family. She also tutors four students, enjoys educational videos, television, and playing Ludo with friends. Her lifelong friend, Fatema, has been her companion from school through her undergraduate studies. Despite her physical challenges, Arzina actively contributes to her household, assisting with cooking, cleaning, taking care of her siblings, and tending to livestock. In January 2024, Arzina’s dedication and active participation were recognized when she was appointed as an Honorary Member of the General Council of Ashraf Foundation. In this role, she collaborates on community initiatives, social projects, and advocacy programs, representing children with disabilities and inspiring others locally. Arzina dreams of completing her education, securing a meaningful job, and living a life of independence and dignity. Her journey exemplifies how determination, family support, and community empowerment can enable a person to rise above physical limitations and achieve remarkable success. Arzina Khatun’s story is a beacon of hope, proving that disability does not define one’s potential—it is courage, persistence, and the right support that illuminate the path to achievement.
